Job Description

UNIVERSITY OF PERADENIYA

University of Peradeniya, the premier Sri Lankan academic institution, world renowned for excellence in teaching and research, will entertain applications from suitably qualified persons for the following permanent posts until 31.08.2022.

 

01) Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences

(i)  Professor of Veterinary Clinical Sciences

Applications are entertained from BVSc. graduates. The applications should be prepared as per UGC circular Nos. 916, 04/2014 and establishment circular letter Nos. 04/2010, 12/2019 & 08/2021. Applicant should have a proven tracks record in teaching and research in Veterinary Clinical Sciences.

 

( ii) Lecturer (Probationary)/ Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I

Applications are entertained from BVSc. graduates who are registered as Veterinary Practitioners with the Sri Lanka Veterinary Council.

Postgraduate qualifications obtained in Companion Animal Medicine ( such qualifications must be in the form of board certification, residency, internship, or postgraduate degree) and experience in clinical teaching related to Companion Animal Medicine at the undergraduate or postgraduate level will be considered essential qualifications as stipulated in relevant circulars for Lecturer (Unconfirmed) and Senior Lecturer Grade II/I.

Expertise in Companion Animal Medicine with at least 05 years of experience in practice in Companion Animal Medicine at a veterinary hospital/ clinic will be considered added advantages ( Selected candidate will be assigned duties mainly in the discipline of Companion Animal Medicine)

 

( iii) Lecturer (Probationary)/ Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I

Applications are entertained from BVSc. graduates who are registered as Veterinary Practitioners with the Sri Lanka Veterinary Council.

02)  Department  of Veterinary Public Health & Pharmacology

(i)  Lecturer (Probationary)/ Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I

Applications are entertained from BVSc. graduates, who are registered as Veterinary Practitioners with the Veterinary Council of Sri Lanka. Postgraduate qualifications as stipulated in relevant circulars are essential for Lecturer (Unconfirmed) and Senior Lecturer Grade II/I.

A sound educational background in teaching Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, and supervise research projects in the field of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology are essential qualifications. Leadership, communication and interpersonal skills will be an added qualification.

Knowledge on ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation, Good

Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and product registration with respect to pharmaceutical products are preferred ( Selected candidate will be assigned duties mainly in the discipline of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology).

 

(ii)  Lecturer (Probationary)/ Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I

Applications are entertained from BVSc. graduates, who are registered as Veterinary Practitioners with the Veterinary Council of Sri Lanka. Postgraduate qualifications as stipulated in relevant circulars are essential for Lecturer (Unconfirmed) and Senior Lecturer Grade II/I. A sound educational background in teaching communication and leadership skills, veterinary client (farmers and animal owners) handling, basic principles of education, psychology and sociology are essential qualifications. Leadership, communication and interpersonal skills will be an added qualification ( Selected candidate will be assigned duties mainly in the discipline of Professional Studies).

 

03) Department of Farm Animal Production & Health

 ( i) Lecturer (Probationary), Lecturer (Unconfirmed)/ Senior Lecturer Grade II/ I

Applications are entertained from BVSc. graduates, who are registered as Veterinary Practitioners with the Sri Lanka Veterinary Council (VCSL). Postgraduate qualifications as stipulated in the relevant circulars and experience in teaching courses related to equine medicine and surgery/herd health management (farm animals) at undergraduate or postgraduate level are essential for Lecturer ( Unconfirmed) and Senior Lecturer Grade II/I.

 

Following would be added qualifications:

* Postgraduate qualifications obtained in a field related to equine medicine and surgery/ herd health management ( such qualifications could be in the form of Board Certification, Residency, Internship, or postgraduate degree)

* Some degree of exposure to swine and integrated veterinary sciences, which would enable the selected candidate to contribute to teaching swine health and production, and integrated veterinary science.

* Membership in related professional associations.

Preference will be given to candidates who have the following specialized qualifications.

1. Work experience in a veterinary hospital/ clinic (equine practice or mixed practice) for at least one year.

2. Diagnostic and therapeutic expertise especially in tropical diseases affecting equines, with evidence.

3. Experience in herd health management (farm animals)

A good record in scientific communication will be given priority.

 

Remuneration and other benefits

( i). Remuneration

Lecturer (Prob.) {(U-AC 3(IV))} Rs.54,600 – 10x1335 – 67,950 p.m.

Lecturer (Unconfirmed){(U-AC 3(III))}Rs.69,580 –  5x1630 – 77,730 p.m.

Snr. Lecturer Gr.II Rs.79,360 – 11x1630 – 97,290 p.m.

Snr. Lecturer Gr.I Rs.91,310 – 7x2170 – 106,500 p.m.

Associate Professor {(U-AC 4} Rs.102,160 – 13x2170 – 130,370 p.m.

Professor {(U-AC 5(II)} Rs.117,350 – 13x2700 – 152,450 p.m.

 

In addition to the above salaries, the following allowances will be paid considering the Basic Salary

 

(I) Cost of Living Allowance, (Currently Rs.7800.00 p.m.)

(II) Academic Allowance,

   Lecturer (Probationary)/-  115% of the Basic Salary p.m.

   Lecturer (Unconfirmed)- 131%            do

   Snr. Lecturer Gr.II- 151%            do

   Snr. Lecturer Gr.I- 151%            do

   Associate Professor- 157%            do

   Professor- 162%            do

(III)    Research Allowance-  35% of the Basic Salary p.m.

( IV)   Additional Monthly Allowance - 20% of the Basic Salary p.m.

*        Entitlement to Sabbatical Leave, Study Leave, Conference Leave, and Special Leave as and   when applicable.

*        Loan facilities.

*        University quarters will be provided subject to availability.

*        Air tickets for teacher and spouse when travelling on sabbatical leave

Provident Fund & Pension Fund

Permanent employees of the University are required to contribute 10% of their monthly salary to the Universities Provident Fund and the University contributes a sum equivalent to 18% of their monthly salary of which 8% will be credited to the Universities Pension Fund, 7% to the Universities Provident Fund (UPF) and 3% to the Employees' Trust Fund (ETF).
